On October 4^th, 2017, SRA Canada joined GRI’s Alyson Genovese and Dr. Kernaghan Webb of the Department of Law and Business at the Ted Rogers School of Management in a panel discussion “The Changing Landscape of Corporate Disclosure: Why CSR Reporting Matters.” SRA presented an update to its December 2016 research findings on the state of sustainability reporting in Canada. SRA’s 2017 research concluded that Canadian publicly listed corporations continue to lag international leaders:

• 66% of TSX Composite Index listed companies publicly disclose some form of sustainability information but only 54% are sustainability “reporters” (i.e., they issue a minimum of 5 PDF or web pages on at least two sustainability topics) – down from 58% in 2016.
• Of the “reporters”, 71% include sustainability information in their Annual Reports – up from 40% in 2016, and 2% issue integrated reports.
• 42% of “reporters” use or reference the GRI – down from 50% in 2016 and 71% in 2014. 10 companies have transitioned to the GRI Standards.
